President's Message (December 2009)
On 11 December 2009, some 900 HKIS members cast their votes in person on the 8th floor of Jardine House to elect the President and Honorary Secretary of the HKIS for 2009-2010. The number of voters is a record in HKIS's history, more than doubled compared with the previous high of about 400 voters in one of the elections for the Vice President's position.

New President and Council is elected
The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors elected Professor CHAU Kwong Wing as the President at its Annual General Meeting on 11 December 2009. The AGM also announced the election of other Office Bearers - Mr WONG Bay as Senior Vice President, Ms Serena Lau as Vice President, Mr Edwin Tang as Honorary Secretary and Mr Lesly Lam as Honorary Treasurer - and Councillors to the General Council for the year 2009-2010.

Memorandum on the cooperation and exchange program between GPMII and HKIS
A memorandum on the basis of friendly cooperation and collective efforts for reciprocity and mutual benefit was signed by the Guangdong Property Management Industry Institute and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors on 13 November 2009 in Guangzhou.

Promotion of Best Professional Practices for Public Private Partnerships (PPPs)
The captioned Project, which is partially funded by the Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme is to introduce and promote best professional practices for public private partnership (PPP) projects in Hong Kong mainly through the development of a suitable PPP model for local property and infrastructure development projects and the organization of a series of workshops and seminars for local professional surveyors, construction and infrastructure related professionals. The materials for the Project are now available for members' information.

HKIS Diploma Presentation 2009
On 22 May 2009, a diploma presentation and a dinner were held for Corporate Members and Technical Associates elected on 27 March, 24 July, 27 November 2008, 22 January and 26 March 2009 at the Eaton Hotel Hong Kong. A total of 159 new members attended to receive their diploma from the President and respective Divisional Chairmen. Members of the General Council also joined in to welcome the new members.

In addition to the Diploma Presentation, Dissertation Awards Prize Presentation and Award Presentation for Professional Volunteer Accreditation Program 20008 were held at the same time.

HKIS Silver Jubilee Cup Horse Racing Day
(2009.05.12) To celebrate the 25th Anniversary, the HKIS presented the HKIS Silver Jubilee Cup to one of the races held at Shatin Racecourse on 9 May 2009 as an one-off event. Over 60 guests and members enjoyed a fun day at the members' box.

(2009.04.28) A Silver Jubilee Birthday Party has been held on 26 April 2009 at the Tai Tam Country Club. Around 180 guests, including those Founding Members, Past Presidents and invited guests, enjoyed a remarkable afternoon.

Press Conference on Compulsory Sale (Cap 545)
(2009.04.27) A press conference on Compulsory Sale (Cap 545) was held on 26 April 2009. The booklet on Compulsory Sale (Chinese version) 強制售賣概覽 was launched and representatives including President Francis Leung, Senior Vice President Stephen Yip, Chairman of the General Practice Division Dr Lawrence Poon and Chairman of the Building Surveying Division Mr Kenneth Yun, briefed the media about the subject and answered questions from the media.

Supplement to the Code of Measuring Practice
(2008.08.18) The Saleable Area Working Group and Executive Committee of the HKIS has reviewed the current Supplement to the Code of Measuring Practice and concluded how Utility Platform, A/C Plant Room and A/C Platform are categorized. A new Supplement has been issued and a Press Conference has been arranged for the announcement.

物業保值有何良策? 樓宇維修及早計劃!
(2008.04.19) HKIS recognised that most private building owners have become more conscious on building maintenance but they are usually hesitant about the implementation for various reasons. In order to let the public have a better understanding on the subject, Building Surveying Division of HKIS is honoured to secure funding from the "The Hong Kong Coalition of Professional Services Atypical Pneumonia Charitable Trust" "香港專業聯盟非典型肺炎慈善基金" to produce an educational video, named "物業保值有何良策 樓宇維修及早計劃!". The video was launched in the Planned Building Maintenance Seminar on 19 April 2008 (sponsored by the Hong Kong Housing Society).

Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate ('Green Card')
The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) has been authorised by the Labour Department to issue the relevant certificate for the construction industry under section 6BA(4) of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, Cap. 59, which will satisfy the safety training requirement under section 6BA(4) of the Ordinance.
