One-day Seminar on Contract Management 2010

The One-day Seminar on Contract Management 2010 was successfully held on 6th February 2010 with nearly 250 participants stuffed up the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre of The Polytechnic University.

The seminar was jointly organized by the young groups of 6 professional institutions including The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and The Law Society of Hong Kong (LawSoc). Through this joint annual event, a committee comprising young surveyors, engineers, solicitors and arbitrators from the professional bodies has provide a platform for practitioners to share experience, address problems and explore new practice in contract management.

Our panel of distinguished guest speakers from various disciplines included Mr. Glenn Haley who shared how to manage the way through the Contractual Jungle, Mr. James Yeung, Mr. Dennis Wong and Mr. Edward McMullen who gave us an Overview of Recent Cases and Latest Legal Developments affecting the Construction Industry in Hong Kong. Mr. Christopher Tung highlighted the sustainable development in the Policy and Law of a Low Carbon Economy. Mr. Mackenzie, J Scott discussed the Alternative Contract Procurement Approach and Mr. Kenneth Poon illustrated a New Approach to Cost Management for Construction Works.

Instead of presenting souvenirs to our honorable speakers, we were delighted to present the meaningful and unique certificates by donation of the budget to the Community Chest as the token of appreciation.

I would like to express my gratitude to the support from YSG and particularly the Committee Members namely Kathy Cheung, Alison Lo, Steve Yu, Joanna Kwok and Rex Ying to create such a successful event with overwhelming response from members.
