Chairman's Message (December 2009)
In the past twelve months, the Quantity Surveying Division Council (QSD) was working hard to accomplish the tasks planned at the beginning of the year. We strived to enhance both local and international networks. We actively involved in local affairs. We explored various means of enhancing communication with members and implemented a new structured professional training course for graduates.

QSD Annual Dinner 2009
The QSD Annual Dinner 2009 was held on 5 June at Voting Member Box, Happy Valley Racecourse. We have the honour of the company of our honourable guests, the President of the Institute, office bearers of the General Council, past HKIS Presidents and past QSD Chairmen. The Dinner was a big success with a full house of thirteen tables.

Application Form for Registration as Cost Engineer
The second lot of registration of cost engineers in China is being arranged. HKIS members, who possess the relevant qualification in June 2009, will be advised shortly of the details of the coming registration in writing. In the mean time, those members, who would like to prepare for the registration, may download from this web site the registration form and the notice issued by Ministry of Construction (renamed as Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in year 2008) stating the requirements for registration as cost engineers.

Technical Site Visit to Shenzhen

The Technical Site Visit to Shenzhen, PRC, organised by the QSD was successfully held on 12 September 2009 with 40 members participating. Members visited the Kwong Yin Wing Koo Timber Company Ltd, a timber manufacturing factory and Yau Lee Wah Concrete Precast Products Company Ltd., a precast concrete manufacturing factory. Representatives of both the factories introduced how various products were manufactured and the techniques involved and gave a tour of the production in the factories. We were pleased to have invited Mr T T Cheung, Past President of HKIS and Mr Sunny Chan, Chairman of the QSD CPD Sub-committee to exchange souvenirs with the representatives of both the factories.

Sincere thanks for the arrangement and support from Mr T T Cheung, Mr Sunny Chan and Mr Honby Chan, and for the participation from some QSD Council Members and other HKIS members.

Seminar on Quantity Surveyors' Road to Success
(2008.10.17) In order to attract and encourage more students and graduates to join our profession, the Divisional Council decided to organize a seminar to introduce the quantity surveying profession to the public.

A working group led by Ricky CHAN and Joseph CHONG approached Career Times, one of the most popular human resources company. Based on their network in human resources aspect, a seminar
"Quantity Surveyors' Road to Success" has been arranged on 28 October 2008 at the Surveyors Learning Centre for the public. The target group of this seminar includes students who are studying F5 and F7 together with parents of these students.

We have invited speakers from different posts of the Quantity Surveying profession such as senior management of government department, private consulting practice and academic institution. A young quantity surveyor will demonstrate her path in joining the profession after graduating from university.
