Phyllis started her career as a quantity surveyor before being admitted to practice as a lawyer in 2000. She is a Chartered Arbitrator and a member of the list of arbitrators maintained by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors jointly with the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. Phyllis is also an accredited mediator on the lists respectively maintained by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Law Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors/Hong Kong Institute of Architects. She was a member of the Advisory Committee on Water Resources and Quality of Water Supplies and a member of the Appeal Board Panel (Town Planning). She is a chairman of the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings). She is now a legal advisor of MTR Corporation Limited.

NEC are said to have special qualities which bring benefits to all uses, not the least of those qualities being the NEC’s opening requirements of mutual trust and cooperation.  In this seminar, Phyllis will review some of the contractual requirements of the main contract of the NEC4 suite of contracts with a view of assisting participants to form their own views as to whether these clauses set NEC4 on a different plane from other standard forms.  This seminar will cover :-

  1. Background to the NEC
  2. Changes from NEC3 to NEC4
  3. General core clauses
  4. Time, payments etc and compensation event schemes
  5. Dispute avoidance and resolution
