At YSG, we provide you with numerous opportunities to expand your network. You can meet young surveyors and senior-but-young-at heart surveyors from different divisions by joining our CPDs and social events. We make use of our established links with other local professional organizations to jointly organize various functions. We also actively reach out to different parts of the world by attending international conferences and organizing study tours and short visits. We connect you across generations, divisions, professions and locations.

Highlights of the month
22 February 2012 – CityU Career Talk
Over 100 potential surveyors from CityU attended the Career Talk for surveying students hosted by The Building & Construction Society of CityUSU. YSG committee members introduced the roles and structure of HKIS, the routes to
professional membership under the new APC system, as well as the latest career prospects in different divisions in the talk.
25 February 2012 – CPD – “The Maintenance of the Environment for Wine Production (Factory Visit of The 8th Estate Winery - Hong Kong’s First Winery)”
How can wine produced in a city without growing grape? How can we simulate the weather and environment of a Chateau in an industrial building? Are there any special licensing requirements? This CPD helps turning these question marks into exclamation marks. We visited an urban winery and its production facilities which are located in a typical industrial building located in Ap Lei Chau. High quality fresh grapes originated from different continents are shipped to the factory, and then freshly pressed, aged in the oak barrels, and bottled there. We also tasted the “Made in Hong Kong” wine!
3 March 2012 – “One Day Seminar on Contract Management” Co-organized by CIArb, CIBSE, HKIE, HKIS, ICE, and Law Society
We had again a full house of participants filling up the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre of PolyU for this One Day Seminar held on 3 March 2012. I am honored to be the Chairman of the Joint-Institute Organizing Committee for this year’s seminar. I would like to thank our guest speakers for their valuable time and effort. I must not forget the contributions by all OC members and helpers from all 6 young professional groups to make this a successful event.

“Far from Ordinary: Women of Excellence” Joint CPD series with JCI HK Jayceettes
Co-organised with JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes (香港女青年商會), a Speaker Series under the theme “Far from ordinary: Women of Excellence” (卓越女性系列) is to be held in Saturday afternoons in the coming months. Outstanding business and community leaders are invited to share their valuable experience on what makes an elite leader and how to overcome hurdles of balance of powers along the way.
