Message from PDD Chairman (July 2014)

On 16 July 2014, the PDD organised a CPD event in the Surveyors Learning Centre. The topic was “Mega-City Region Planning of the Pearl River Delta under the Changing Relationship between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta”. The guest speaker was Professor Anthony G.O. Yeh, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Social Sciences and Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, the University of Hong Kong. Over 60 members attended this event.

The PDD will hold a CPD event from 7 to 8:30 PM on 27 August 2014 in the Surveyors Learning Centre. The guest speaker will be Ms Johanna Cheng, the Hong Kong Institute of Planners, and the topic is “Planning Law and Practices in Hong Kong”.

We received a letter from the Chairman of Planning Institute Australia’s Hong Kong Branch (PIA) on 18 June 2014. The PIA wants to explore the possibility of cooperating with our Division, since it only has 82 members in Hong Kong and has not organised any local CPD event. The PIA hopes that we can invite its members to our CPD events. On 8 July 2014, we raised this issue during our Council Meeting and agreed to support it.

Back in April, the PDD confirmed its collaboration with Shanghai Tongji University to organise a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning & Development. Recently, Tongji proposed setting up a training centre with the HKIS in Shanghai to promote the surveying profession and prepare more students for a surveying career. Currently, Tongji is drafting a proposal of this plan for our consideration.
