Details :

In recent years, Hong Kong has been subject to a series of extreme weather events. For instance, in July 2022, the intense heat shattered 11 records. Furthermore, in 2023, the city recorded an hourly rainfall of 158.1mm, marking the highest in its history. According to Prof Ng’s latest research, the 10-year average number of hot nights is projected to surge by 50% over the next two decades.

Taking into account Hong Kong's high-density urban structure and the urban heat island effect, this Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session will delve into the variations in heat stress across different districts. It will highlight the areas most significantly affected by hot nights. Additionally, the research offers a set of recommendations to tackle the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions.
